What is the typical high temperature rating for fluorosilicone sealing rings

2018-02-23

Fluorosilicone sealing ring is a type of rubber seal that does not contain any C-H bonds. This rubber has similar thermal stability and chemical resistance to polytetrafluoroethylene. Due to the presence of - OCF3 groups in the side chain, it has good elasticity and unique adaptability to oil, thermal aging, photoaging, and other conditions. The fluorine content has a decisive impact on the special properties of fluorosilicone gel. At present, countries producing fluorosilicone gel globally include the United States, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, Russia, China, and others.

Fluorosilicone sealing rings have good physical and mechanical properties similar to general fluororubber, and can be adjusted within a certain range. But its high temperature resistance and resistance to special media are unparalleled by general-purpose fluororubber. The performance of different brands of fluorosilicone varies at high temperatures. According to theoretical research, the high temperature resistance level of Suweisulex's fluorosilicone gel can reach 310 ℃, DuPont's fluorosilicone gel can reach 327 ℃, and PPE's high temperature level can reach 330 ℃. Under laboratory conditions, the compression set test is used to evaluate the temperature resistance of fluorosilicone seals.

Fluorosilicone sealing rings can withstand corrosion from almost all chemical media, including ether, ketone, benzene ring solvents, strong oxidants, strong acids, strong bases, etc. They can also withstand chemicals that other rubbers cannot use, such as acrylonitrile, DNT, ether, dichloromethane, styrene, amine based, ethoxyethanol, ethylene oxide, ketones, diluents, vinyl chloride, butadiene, DMT, esters, propylene oxide, Afras, etc. Fluorosilicone also exhibits excellent performance in these media. However, the solvent resistance of fluorosilicone gel may vary due to different grades of raw rubber, so it is important to choose the correct grade of rubber when using it, especially when applied to amino compounds.

The vulcanized rubber of fluorosilicone also has low permeability to gases and liquids, good combustion resistance, electrical insulation performance, low friction and wear performance, thermal conductivity, and high volume expansion rate at high temperatures.
