Some reasons for the aging of rubber sealing strips

2017-03-11

The aging problem of rubber sealing strips has always been a challenge for the sealing strip industry. Currently, rubber is widely used in the sealing strip industry, so solving the aging problem of rubber is still very important for the development of the sealing strip industry. Meanwhile, aging is the most significant factor affecting the sealing performance of sealing strips.

The aging of rubber mainly refers to the phenomena such as cracking, hardening, discoloration, and cracking that occur on the surface of rubber during use or storage.

The main factor affecting the aging of sealing strips is the natural environment. Firstly, the influence of air components such as oxygen and ozone. The occurrence of oxidation reactions mainly causes the molecular chains of rubber to break. However, the degree of influence of ozone and oxygen is different, with ozone having a greater degree of oxidative damage. Secondly, the influence of light and moisture is a key factor in accelerating aging. Moisture in the air is a necessary condition for rubber to soften, while light is the main factor promoting its discoloration. Long term exposure to sunlight can easily cause rubber to deform and soften. Thirdly, temperature has a significant impact on rubber, mainly in the cold winter when it hardens severely, leading to rubber fracture, and in the hot summer when it softens.

The above points are the main factors that cause rubber seals to age, so when maintaining seals, the main focus should be on waterproofing, air isolation, and insulation.
